Imasuen to celebrate centenary of Oba Ovonramwen’s death •Premieres ‘1897’
PRODUCER and director, Lancelot Imasuen, will mark the centenary of the death of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi of Benin on Tuesday, January 14.
Speaking in a chat ahead of the premiere of his epic film ‘1897’ about the British invasion of Benin, Imasuen disclosed that he would host guests from corporate Nigeria and the media at his new studio located at Bassie Ogbanba Street, off Adeniran Ogunsanya , Surulere on the day.
Explaining his decision to celebrate the monarch who died in exile in Calabar in 1914, he said: “There is a whole lot of similarities between the Nigeria state and the Oba Ovonramwen phenomenon. I visited the place where the Oba lived, died and was buried in Calabar during my recent visit to Cross River. To others, it’s just a film. But to me, it’s a movement.
The long wait for cassava bread
At last, the Federal Government says it is set to begin the implementation of its policy on cassava bread. Under the arrangement, bread manufacturers in the country will be compelled to substitute 20 per cent of the wheat flour content of bread with cassava flour, in a move that is expected to substantially cut down the country’s total annual wheat import bill by N127 billion. Nigeria currently blows N635 billion worth of hard-earned foreign exchange on wheat imports annually.
CBN Gov’s whereabouts unknown

The whereabouts of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is unknown since his altercation with President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday over his resignation. The president had accused Sanusi (on telephone) of leaking the letter of the alleged missing $49.8 billion from the Federation Account to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, which he copiously quoted in his indicting letter to Jonathan.
