Imasuen to celebrate centenary of Oba Ovonramwen’s death •Premieres ‘1897’

PRODUCER and director, Lancelot Imasuen, will mark the centenary of the death of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi of Benin on Tuesday, January 14.

Speaking in a chat ahead of the premiere of his epic film ‘1897’ about the British invasion of Benin, Imasuen disclosed that he would host guests from corporate Nigeria and the media at his new  studio located at Bassie Ogbanba Street, off Adeniran Ogunsanya , Surulere on the day.
Explaining his decision to celebrate the monarch who died in exile in Calabar in 1914, he said: “There is a whole lot of similarities between the Nigeria state and the Oba Ovonramwen phenomenon. I visited the place where the Oba lived, died and was buried in Calabar during my recent visit to Cross River. To others, it’s just a film. But to me, it’s a movement.
