The mystery surrounding Lucy Beale’s murder continues to deepen and now Ben Hardy, who plays her brother Peter, has stuck his oar in with his own theory – he thinks that his character could turn out to be the killer.

The actor told Inside Soap:  continue to read“My current theory is that Peter killed Lucy! There are a few factors that are suggesting to me that it’s going to be him. However, I don’t think he would have done it deliberately. I think Lucy’s death might have been an accident – maybe Peter pushed her out of frustration and she hit her head. And then when we saw him crying at the funeral, it’s because he’s so devastated by the guilt of what he’s done.”

No one outside of a tight-lipped circle of EastEnders producers knows who actually did it, but there is plenty of speculation.

Jay Brown is the latest suspect in the case after CCTV footage showed that he was on the same bus as Lucy the night she died. But it seems that EastEnders fans are keen to point the finger at Peter’s girlfriend Lola Pearce. Bookies William Hill has said that she is now the favourite after her odds were dramatically slashed from 66/1 to 7/2 in the space of an evening.

Other favourites with viewers are market boss Aleks Shirovs, teenager Abi Branning, funeral director Les Coker and magically-back-from-the-dead Nick Cotton.
Whoever committed the murder, there are plenty of suspects to get through yet as the storyline isn’t due to reach its dramatic conclusion until February 2015, to tie in with the soaps 30th birthday celebrations.
We don’t know about you, but we’re not sure we can wait that long!
